Your 3 days Murchison Falls safari adventure takes you to Uganda’s largest and second most visited park after Queen Elizabeth. The park spans over 1,503 square miles and is a home to over 76 mammal species, more than 451 bird species, among other wildlife attractions. Also, Murchison Falls National Park stands out as the country’s oldest park dating back to 1926 when it was first gazetted as a wildlife reserve. Murchison Falls is situated in the North – western Uganda, at the northern end of the Albertine rift valley. The park is bisected by Victoria Nile forming the famous northern and southern banks. The river banks attract a high concentration of wildlife including four of the big fives; the elephants, leopards, lions and the cape buffaloes.
Murchison falls National Park has a myriad attractions; the eminent Murchison Falls raging in its center, the placid Victoria Nile with its unending stream that quietly flows across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert, the Karuma falls, the Savannah grasslands that conceal the aggressive predators and their unfortunate prey, the Rabongo forest and the Kaniyo-Pabidi eco-tourism site – the home of several habituated chimpanzees, among other primate species. Your 3 days Murchison Falls adventure will begin with an experienced driver – guide picking you from Kampala at 7:30 am. After briefing you on how your safari will go, you will embark on your journey to Uganda’s celebrated Murchison Falls National Park. As you drive toward the North-western Uganda where Murchison Falls is situated, you will pass through the infamous Luweero triangle – renowned for the 1981 – 1985 brutal massacres.
You will make your first stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only place in Uganda where rhinos can be observed in their natural habitat. With the aid of park rangers, you will track and encounter the rhinos for an hour before continuing with your journey to Murchison Falls. Your next stop will be in Masindi town where you will have your lunch. You will arrive at Murchison Falls National Park in the evening. Before retiring to your choice accommodation for dinner and overnight, your guide will drive you to the top of falls. You will see the breath-taking sight of the surging waters squeezing through the rocks and flowing over an 8 meter gorge. This will mark the end of your first day in Murchison Falls National Park.
Your second day in Murchison falls will begin with a game drive at 6:30 am, after having your breakfast. Depending on the location of your lodging, you will embark on a game drive in one of the park’s famous game viewing tracks; the Albert track, Buligi track and the Victoria track. Also, the area around Nyamsika gorge and its cliffs has a high concentration of game. You will see various animals including four of the big fives; lions, elephants, leopards, and the cape buffaloes. A game drive in Murchison falls is also your chance to spot; the Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest, oribis, grey duikers, Bush bucks, among other wildlife that make their abode in the park.
After having lunch, you will head out for a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile. The sight and sound of the gushing and rushing waterfalls is soothing and breath-taking. As you sail upstream to the bottom of the falls, you will spot herds of hippos and crocodiles along the river banks. The boat cruise is also the ideal adventure for the avid birder. The area around the Nile and the Murchison falls is a habitat to the shoe bill stork, bee-eater, pelican, Egyptian geese, goliath heron, horn bill, kingfisher, saddle-bill stork, among other bird species. Murchison Falls National Park is nature’s hub; you will enjoy the sights and sounds of the abundant wildlife before retiring to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
On the third day of your Murchison Falls safari adventure, you will have an early breakfast, pack your bags and drive to Kaniyo – Pabidi eco-tourism site. The site is comprised of a forest reserve which is famous for chimp trekking. You will have a chance to track a habituated chimpanzee family before heading back to Kampala. Besides the chimps, the site is a habitat to other primate species including; the blue monkeys, velvet monkeys, baboons, red-tailed monkeys and the black and white colobus monkeys.
You will leave Kaniyo – Pabidi in the afternoon, make a brief stop in Masindi town to have lunch, and reach Kampala in the late evening. Your guide will drop you at a location of your choice. This will mark the end of your 3 days Murchison Falls safari adventure.
