Your 3 days Lake Mburo National Park safari adventure will begin when a driver – guide picks you from a suitable location in Kampala at 6:30am. After a briefing on how your park safari will go, you will immediately embark on your journey, to beat city traffic. The drive to Lake Mburo National Park lasts between 4-5 hours. You will briefly stop at the equator in Kayabwe to take photographs at the monument where the imaginary line that divides the earth into two halves passes. At this place you will be able to stand in both the Southern hemisphere and the Northern hemisphere at the same.
As you draw closer to the park, you will sight the famous long-horned cattle which are endemic to this region of the country, the rolling hills, the Savannah grasslands dotted with the humble homesteads of the countryside dwellers. Upon reaching the park, you will have lunch and then embark on a guided nature walk through the park. Also, if you are an avid birder, you could go for a birding excursion. While on it, you will visit areas like; the swampy valleys of Warukiri and Miriti, the roadsides between the Rwonyo camp and the Jetty, and the well-situated viewing platforms at the salt licks in Miriti. You will see a variety of birds including; Ross’s turaco, Rufous-bellied heron, Coqui francolin, Grey-crowned crane, White-headed barbet, Red-faced barbet, Nubian woodpecker, Red-headed lovebird, Brown parrot, Emerald-spotted wood dove, Green wood hoopoe, Black-bellied bastard, White-winged tit and finfoot, common scimitarbill, Yellow breasted apalis and the Bateleur. As the dusk sets in, you will end the day’s park safari excursion. You will retire to your choice lodge for dinner and overnight.
On the second day of your park safari in Lake Mburo, you will have breakfast and head out for a morning game drive. You will drive through the demarcated game viewing trails, spotting various game along the way. A park safari game drive in Lake Mburo is your opportunity to see the; buffaloes, impalas, burchell’s zebras, elands, bush bucks, warthogs, reed bucks and topis. It is also very likely that you will see the elusive leopards, hyenas and jackals. You can take photos or capture a video of the experience. Lake Mburo offers a satiating park safari experience.
After having lunch in the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo. As you sail on the lake, you will spot; herds of hippos, buffaloes, and crocodiles at the banks. The area around the lake is also a habitat to many bird species including the rare shoe bill stork. The other birds to see during this park safari include; the red, yellow and black papyrus gonaleks, African fishing eagle, African finfoot, Abyssinian ground horn bill, saddle billed stork, red-faced barbet, grey-crowned crane, papyrus yellow warbler, and the brown-chested wattled plover. Your day will end when you choose to retire to your lodging for dinner.
On the last day of your Lake Mburo National Park safari, you will have breakfast and then go out for a guided nature walk to the salt lick area. You will be thrilled to see various wildlife licking the salty soil found there. The UWA erected a raised platform where you can stand and have a good view of the animals. As the afternoon wanes, you will embark on your journey back to Kampala. Your driver will make a brief stop at Mbambiire – a local craftsmanship area where traditional drums are made. You will then drive on to Uganda’s capital. Your driver guide will drop you at a location of your choice. This will mark the end of your 3 days Lake Mburo park safari adventure.
