Your 3 days Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour will begin with one of our experienced driver and guide picking you from a suitable location in Kampala at 7:30 am. You will then embark on your journey to Kibale National Park situated in the South-western Uganda, close to the peaceful Ndali-Kasenda crater area, and within a few hours drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the Rwenzori mountains, Semuliki National Park and the Toro-Semuliki Wildlife Reserve.

You will have lunch in Fort Portal town – Uganda’s renowned tourist hub. Before continuing to Kibale National Park, you will visit a number of remarkable tourist sites within Fort Portal; the Tooro palace – the residence of King Oyo, the reigning monarch of Tooro kingdom. The palace’s location on Kabarole hill offers a panoramic view of Fort Portal town and a large part of Tooro Kingdom. You will also visit the Karambi tombs – the burial sight of three of Tooro kingdom’s famous kings.

Finally, you will pay a visit to the fabled ‘Amabere ga nyina mwiru’ – a remarkable cultural site comprising of limestone caves concealing the fascinating features of a woman’s breasts dripping a whitish-milky substance. A traditional Tooro legend has it that the breast-like features (amabere) are Nyinamwiru’s breasts. Nyinamwiru was the beautiful daughter of Bakuku, one of the great rulers of the Batembuzi dynasty – present day Tooro kingdom. When she proudly refused to marry the man her father had chosen for her, he cut off her breasts and had them thrown in one of the caves where they still are to date dripping with milk. You will arrive at Kibale National Park in the late evening, and check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale forest – guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

The second day of your Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour will begin with an early breakfast before heading out to Kanyanchu Visitor Center for a briefing from the park authorities after which you will be allocated a chimp community to track. Chimpanzees live in large communities of about 100 individuals, and a typical tracking experience lasts between 2 – 6 hours. You will have the opportunity to watch the chimps go about their daily routine; feeding, patrolling, hunting, copulating, as well as playing and breastfeeding for the little ones. Kibale National Park has the highest concentration of chimp population in Uganda.

After your chimpanzee tracking experience, you will go for a guided nature walk in Bigodi wetland sanctuary in the late afternoon after having your lunch. The swamp is a habitat to over 200 bird species, and a variety of primate and mammal species including; the various kinds of monkeys, otters, bush pigs, bush bucks, sitatungas, and mongooses. You will retire to your lodge in the late evening for dinner and overnight. This will mark the end of your second day in Kibale National Park.

Day 3Visit the Ndali – Kasenda crater lakes region – return to Kampala

On the last of your Kibale National Park safari, you will have an early breakfast and then head out to Ndali – Kasenda crater lakes region. The region is a mass of lakes formed from ancient volcanic activity dating back to over 1000 years. The region offers you a scenic view of the rolling hills, the rugged landscape and thick greenery covering the surrounding areas. It is not advisable to swim in the lakes however, because they have green toxic water and they give off a sulphuric smell.

You will return to your lodge in the afternoon, have lunch, pack and set off for Kampala. You will enjoy a serene drive back to your desired destination in Kampala or to Entebbe airport if you have a flight to catch. This will mark the end of your 3 days Kibale National Park chimpanzee trekking tour.
