This splendid 1 day rhino Africa safari excursion will begin in the early morning when a driver-guide picks you from a suitable location in Kampala. After a briefing on how your day will be spent, you will embark on a drive to the prized Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only place in Uganda where rhinos can be tracked. This trip is aimed at giving you an encounter with the restored rhino population.
You will make your first stop in Luweero to buy an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. Your guide will also make sure that you drive through the infamous Luweero triangle, an area marked out for the 1981 – 1986 brutal massacres that ushered the reigning NRM government into power. A rhino Africa safari drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary is incomplete without passing through the Luweero triangle.
As you continue your drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary, you will drive through the famous cattle corridor which is an integral part of Nakasongola. You will see large herds of cattle grazing in the short grasses in the open savannah woodlands. Once you reach the sanctuary, you will report for a briefing on how to conduct yourself while on a rhino tracking excursion. A guide will tell you what to do and what not to do because rhinos can get dangerously aggressive when they sense a need to defend themselves.
