This splendid 1 day rhino Africa safari excursion will begin in the early morning when a driver-guide picks you from a suitable location in Kampala. After a briefing on how your day will be spent, you will embark on a drive to the prized Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – the only place in Uganda where rhinos can be tracked. This trip is aimed at giving you an encounter with the restored rhino population.
You will make your first stop in Luweero to buy an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. Your guide will also make sure that you drive through the infamous Luweero triangle, an area marked out for the 1981 – 1986 brutal massacres that ushered the reigning NRM government into power. A rhino Africa drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary is incomplete without passing through the Luweero triangle.
As you continue your drive to Ziwa rhino sanctuary, you will drive through the famous cattle corridor which is an integral part of Nakasongola. You will see large herds of cattle grazing in the short grasses in the open savannah woodlands. Once you reach the sanctuary, you will report for a briefing on how to conduct yourself while on a rhino tracking excursion. A guide will tell you what to do and what not to do because rhinos can get dangerously aggressive when they sense a need to defend themselves.
Your rhino tracking excursion will be on foot. As you will trek through the bushes with the aid of the sanctuary’s experienced guides, it won’t be long before you encounter a group of rhinos grazing. Once you encounter the rhinos, you will spend an hour observing them as they graze and interact with each other. After the trekking adventure, you will have lunch and take some time to relax and unwind before you embark on a guided nature walk through the sanctuary. A rhino Africa trip to Ziwa rhino sanctuary is also a chance to see reptilian and mammal species like; antelopes, monkeys, hippos, crocodiles and an innumerable number of bird species. As the evening sets in, you will embark on a return drive to Kampala. Your guide will drop you at your residence or drive you to the airport if you have a flight to catch. This will mark the end of your 1 day rhino Africa safari tour to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
